Memorializing the Lost Ones

I'm setting up this space in order to encourage easy communication among the organizers and participants of the upcoming events in May 2009 in Carlisle. Anyone involved in the planning is invited to initiate messages to be shared with everyone else. Permissions will be given for the principle email addresses, and if anyone needs to be added please email blandis@epix.net or blandis01@comcast.net so you will be included and given access to moderate the blog.

This might be a good way for everyone to see and participate in the planning for the ceremonies and feasts surrounding the memorials to the Lost Ones.

Jump in and feel free to make your plans / ideas / brainstorming known.

I have cooked a pot of soup and a pot of traditional, PA Dutch baked beans - Aunt Martha's recipe. I am planning to make the run to the train station tomorrow to pick up Mr. Romero and Ms. Tamez. Is the time 12:45?

I am telling people to meet at the Agway at 2:30 for carpooling.

Some questions still - are there plans for Saturday? I know Rudy, Lorie, Rudy Jr, Richard and Anita will be heading to Penn State for the graduation. Will you all be coming back down to Carlisle Sunday? Jackie will need to be at the airport for her return flight to England Sunday at about 3 or 4PM, so we will need to leave Carlisle sometime after 1:00 PM.

For anybody who doesn't have plans Saturday afternoon/evening, we are having a birthday party for my 3-year old granddaughter. It's a pot luck fun party and you will be welcome there. I'll make up maps.

LOST ONES

In November 1528 "Our world was forever changed," they say.

As I met with the leaders of the Nde it was proclaimed by all that the spirits of the "Lost Ones" will finally be allowed to make the journey home. What was forever changed, will now be one again, they say.

To Dr. Jacqueline Fear-Segal the Nde will forever make mention of her name in our traditional history for finding the Lost Ones. As the days are counted to send our Lost Ones home, they say.

Among our people the life of the Lost Ones will never be known. With the discovery of the Lost Ones the people can only imagine their life.

To the family of the Lost Ones you come from the Cuélcahen Ndé (People of the Tall Grass) that extends beyond time, we offer to you a part of your life is missing . . . come sit, eat, and enjoy our company . . . they say.

With this in mind, our lives become much more richer with the knowledge that the Lost Ones have come home in our hearts and minds.

Blessing Ceremony for Jack Mather at Indian Cemetery, Carlisle Barracks

Blessing Ceremony for Richard Kasetta, Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Carlisle Barracks (note: Photo Id and requisite paperwork for vehicle entry through security will be necessary for any adult entering the garrison, where the cemetery and former Carlisle Indian School grounds are located)

Notes
Women, please cover your arms and wear long skirts/dresses.
Anyone entering the Carlisle Barracks to visit the Indian cemetery will need to show photo ID in order to pass through the security. Driver's licenses, vehicle registration and insurance information will be checked. We will be visiting a working US Army base and military regulations require that we show identification and observe caution when taking photographs. Please take care not to take photos in the direction of the security canopy, security guards to the east and south of the cemetery. To streamline admission to the military base, we will gather at the parking lot of the Agway on East North street at 2:30 PM, and carpool into the garrison. The Agway is located at 520 E. North St, Carlisle PA 17013.

There will be directions to both cemeteries posted to the blog.

Separate arrangements have yet to be finalized for a blessing to memorialized Kersetta in Lahaska, Pennsylvania. The tentative date for this is Sunday, May 17th.

Daniel Castro Romero will travel to New York after these events, as an invited guest to speak at the United Nations. For insight into some of the issues the Lipan face, see the links below.
